The left-hand drills open a true pilot hole while turning counterclockwise, which keeps heat down and steers the broken screw out rather than driving it deeper; the milled bearing-steel extractors then bite and back it out. Extractors run No.1 to No.5, paired with M35 cobalt left-hand drills from 5/64" to 19/64". Supplied in a moulded storage tray that keeps every piece in its own slot. How to Use

Center-punch the broken fastener. Drill with the matching-sized left-hand bit in reverse rotation to open a pilot hole, then tap in the extractor and turn counterclockwise to back the fastener out. Keep both tools square and wear eye protection.

Why are the drill bits left-hand? Turning counterclockwise does two useful things: it keeps the broken screw from being driven deeper, and the friction and heat of drilling help free it while you open the pilot hole.

Which extractor do I start with? Drill with the matched left-hand bit, then use the largest extractor that fits the resulting hole. Step down a size only if it slips.
