Introduction

Amsuo 3-Cutter (Y-Head) SDS-Plus Hammer Drill Bits — Stable Head, Cleaner Holes

The cutting head is where a hammer drill bit succeeds or fails. The Amsuo 3-Cutter (Y-Head) SDS-Plus Hammer Drill Bits use a three-edge Y-shaped solid carbide head that spreads impact load across three points of contact instead of two — giving the head a more stable seat on the borehole face and holding its geometry through the hit.

Built on the SDS-Plus slotted drive (Ø10 mm shank, two open and two closed grooves), this is the bit for the light and medium rotary hammers that do most of the anchor and fixing work on site. The series runs a 65-size ladder from 5 mm to 14 mm — equivalent to 3/16" through 9/16" in nominal imperial sizing — so contractors and distributors can order to whichever system their market specifies.

Key Benefits

  • 3-cutter Y-head solid carbide tip (YG8X) — three cutting edges share the impact load, so the head stays seated and drills a rounder hole
  • Stable tip geometry — less head wobble at entry, fewer oversize holes, and no hooking when the tip meets reinforcement
  • Centering tip — accurate starts without a pilot hole or center punch
  • Suited to reinforced concrete — three-edge tip geometry is built for masonry where rebar may be present
  • Quadruple-helix flute — four channels lift abrasive dust out of the hole on every rotation to keep the tip cool
  • Dowel length indicator — lasered depth marks for exact anchor-set depth
  • 40Cr heat-treated body — core toughness with a wear-resistant surface
  • SDS-Plus slotted drive — Ø10 mm shank, 2 open + 2 closed grooves; tool-free one-handed changes, axial float, no bit slip under torque. Fits SDS-Plus rotary hammers only
  • Metric and imperial on one ladder — 5–14 mm metric sizes cross-referenced to 3/16"–9/16" nominal imperial sizes
  • 65 stocked SKUs — one series covers anchor work through deep drilling

FAQ

Why a 3-cutter head instead of a 4-cutter?

A three-edge Y-head spreads impact across three points of contact and seats more stably on the borehole face, which helps the bit hold its line and drill a rounder hole. Many manufacturers specify a 3-cutter tip specifically for drilling in reinforced concrete.

What materials can these bits drill?

Concrete, block, brick and general masonry. For tile, ceramic and natural stone, run the rotary hammer in rotary-only mode (hammer off) to avoid chipping the surface.

Will these fit my hammer drill?

These are SDS-Plus bits. They fit SDS-Plus rotary hammers, which use a Ø10 mm slotted shank with two open and two closed grooves. They do not fit SDS-Max tools, and they are not for straight-chuck drill/drivers — please confirm your tool type before ordering. We also supply this 3-cutter head on an SDS-Max shank (Ø18 mm).

Can I order in inches instead of millimetres?

Yes. The size ladder below is shown in both systems, and the cross-reference table maps every metric diameter to its nearest standard imperial size. Our metric ladder spans 5 mm to 14 mm, covering the common imperial sizes from 3/16" to 9/16" — for example 5 mm / 3/16", 6.5 mm / 1/4", 8 mm / 5/16", 10 mm / 3/8" and 14 mm / 9/16". Tell us the nominal size your market uses and we will quote the closest metric equivalent, or produce to your target diameter.

Can these bits be private-labeled?

Yes — custom branding, packaging and bulk size-assortment programs are available. MOQ 500 pcs per size.

Why AMSUO — 3-Cutter (Y-Head) SDS-Plus Hammer Drill Bits

The Y-head difference: stability you can hear in the hole.

Every rotary hammer bit takes thousands of impacts per minute. What separates a bit that cuts a clean, round, on-size hole from one that chatters, wanders and drills oversize comes down to how the carbide head meets the concrete. The Amsuo 3-Cutter (Y-Head) series is built around a three-edge Y-shaped solid carbide head. Where a two-cutter blade rocks on a single axis and a four-cutter cross splits force across four legs, the three-cutter geometry seats the head on three points of contact — a shape that stays put under impact, holds the borehole diameter, and resists the head lift that pushes a bit off line.

Three cutting edges, rounder holes.

Three edges around the circumference mean the bit is continuously supported as it rotates, so the hole comes out round rather than lobed. For anchor work, that matters: an oversize or out-of-round hole weakens the mechanical fixing and forces the installer to over-torque or step up to a larger anchor. For through-hole work in block and concrete, it means fewer blown-out breakout edges and less rework. A centering tip lets the bit start precisely on the mark without a pilot hole or center punch — one less step per hole, multiplied across a shift.

A head built for reinforced concrete.

Three-edge tip geometry is the specification many tool manufacturers choose when they expect a rotary hammer to meet reinforcement steel. The point load on each edge is lower than on a two-cutter blade, so the carbide is less likely to chip when it glances off a bar. Combined with a stable seat on the borehole face, this makes the 3-cutter Y-head a practical choice for renovation and structural work where you cannot always predict what is inside the wall.

Quadruple-helix flutes that clear the hole.

Hammer drilling produces fine, abrasive dust. If it is not removed as it forms, it packs around the shank, generates friction, heats the carbide and eventually seizes the bit. The Amsuo 3-cutter body uses a quadruple-helix flute: four deep channels that act as an Archimedes screw, pulling dust up and out on every rotation. The bit stays cool, the tip holds its hardness longer, and the operator applies less forward pressure because the bit pulls itself into the work.

Depth control without a tape measure. Every bit carries a dowel length indicator, so anchor-set depth is read straight off the shank.

Shank and body engineered for impact.

Masonry drilling is violent — rotation combined with thousands of impacts per minute puts enormous torsional and compressive stress through the bit. Amsuo fabricates the body from 40Cr heat-treated alloy steel, selected for core toughness (so it will not snap mid-hole) with a hardened surface that resists abrasion from aggregate. The shank area receives additional hardening to prevent mushrooming and deformation after repeated chucking. The bit is designed to fail safely — wearing the carbide tip gradually rather than shearing the shaft.

SDS-Plus shank: one-handed, slip-free, universal.

SDS stands for Slotted Drive System. The SDS-Plus shank is Ø10 mm and carries two open and two closed grooves, giving tool-free one-handed bit changes, automatic axial float for full hammer transfer, and no bit slip under torque. The profile is manufactured to ANSI B212.15, so it locks into any SDS-Plus rotary hammer from any major brand. Deep, burr-free grooves resist wear even after hundreds of insertions into dirty or sandy chucks.

Pairing that shank with a three-cutter Y-head also gives a good balance for the medium rotary hammers that dominate day-to-day site work: enough impact energy to drive a 10 mm or 12 mm anchor hole efficiently, without the weight and cost of a heavy-duty SDS-Max tool. If your work runs to larger diameters, deeper holes or continuous production drilling, the same 3-cutter head is also available on an SDS-Max shank (Ø18 mm, 3 open grooves) — see our SDS-Max series.

The wholesale view.

Downgrading to unbranded three-cutter bits is a false economy measured in oversized holes, wasted anchors and rework. For distributors and private-label programs, the Amsuo 3-Cutter (Y-Head) SDS-Plus series offers consistent head geometry batch to batch, a dual metric/imperial size ladder, ISO triple-certified production, and packaging built for retail or industrial assortment.
