Key Selling Points

  1. Stepped-tip point — the point is ground as a series of fine concentric steps instead of one continuous taper. Each step takes a small cut, so the bit starts on sheet metal, tube, thin-wall and curved surfaces with less skating and far less risk of grabbing the work and spinning it.
  2. Three flat shank — three flats are ground at 120° onto the shank so the chuck jaws seat on flat faces instead of relying on friction alone. Less slipping in the chuck under load, and more of the motor’s torque reaches the cutting edge.
  3. Black & gold finish — a two-tone surface: gold-tone coating on the flutes and cutting edges for surface hardness and heat resistance, black-oxide on the shank for corrosion protection and grip. The contrast also makes wear easy to read at a glance.
  4. Full fractional range in one case — 29 sizes from 1/16" to 1/2" in 1/64" increments, so one set covers pilot holes through clearance and assembly holes. Sizes are reordered by number, not measured by feel.
  5. Three body materials, one geometry — choose M2 (HSS) for general steel and wood work, or cobalt-bearing M35 / M42 for stainless steel and harder alloys. Same stepped point and same shank across all three, so tooling and handling stay identical.
  6. Jobber length, ANSI/ASME B94.11M sizing — standard fractional jobber geometry: a familiar length and balance for hand drills and drill presses alike, easy to cross-reference against any existing size chart.

Stepped-tip point. Ground as a series of fine concentric steps: each step takes a small cut, so the bit locates and enters progressively instead of grabbing thin or curved material.

Three flat shank. Three ground flats at 120° give the chuck jaws flat faces to grip, so the shank resists slipping as the load rises.

Black & gold finish. Gold-tone coated flutes for hardness and heat resistance; black-oxide shank for corrosion protection — and a two-tone surface that shows wear clearly.

Features Explained

Stepped-Tip Point The point is ground in fine concentric steps rather than one continuous taper. Each step removes a small chip, so the bit starts on thin sheet, tube and curved surfaces with less skating and less risk of catching and spinning the workpiece.
Three Flat Shank Three flats are ground at 120° so that the chuck jaws grip flat faces. Grip improves and the chance of the shank slipping in the chuck drops as the load rises.
Black & Gold Finish The gold-tone coating on the flutes and cutting edges adds surface hardness and heat resistance; the black-oxide shank resists corrosion. Because the two tones wear differently, the used areas are obvious at a glance.
M2 / M35 / M42 Options M2 high-speed steel covers general steel, wood and plastic. M35 and M42 are cobalt-bearing high-speed steels for stainless steel and harder, more abrasive alloys. The stepped point, flute and three flat shank are identical in all three.
29-Size Fractional Range 1/16" through 1/2" in 1/64" increments — 29 diameters, so pilot, clearance and assembly holes are drilled from one case.
Jobber Length Standard jobber proportions per ANSI/ASME B94.11M: a familiar balance for hand drills and drill presses, and easy to cross-reference against any existing size chart.

Materials & Applications

Material Typical Applications Recommendation
Metal Steel plate and sheet metal, angle iron, aluminium and copper; pilot holes, clearance and assembly holes, conduit and cable entries M2 for general steel work; M35 / M42 for stainless and harder alloys. Low speed with cutting fluid; clamp the workpiece firmly
Wood Timber, plywood and panel work; pilot holes for hardware, dowel and pipe openings Medium-high speed for chip clearance; back the work with a scrap block to limit tear-out
Plastic PVC / PE pipe and fittings, plastic housings, acrylic sheet Low to medium speed to avoid melted edges

Target buyers: hardware wholesalers / industrial MRO distributors / electrical and plumbing contractors / private-label tool brands / DIY retail chains.

How to Use

  • Check your drill chuck capacity against the bit diameter before use, and make sure the shank is fully seated in the jaws.
  • Clamp the workpiece. Small bits still need a firm, stable setup.
  • Start at low speed and let the stepped point locate the hole; apply pressure only once the point has bitten.
  • Use cutting fluid or a suitable lubricant on metal, and clear chips regularly.
  • Reduce speed as the diameter increases; work up through the sizes in the set rather than jumping to the final diameter.

FAQ

What is included in the set? 29 sizes from 1/16" to 1/2" in 1/64" increments, supplied in a storage case.
What does “stepped-tip” mean? The point is ground as a series of fine concentric steps instead of one continuous taper. Each step takes a small cut, which helps on sheet metal, tube and thin-wall material.
What is the three flat shank for? Three ground flats at 120° give the chuck jaws a flat face to grip, so the bit is less likely to slip under load.
Which material should I choose? M2 (HSS) for general steel, wood and plastic; M35 or M42 (cobalt HSS) for stainless steel and harder, more abrasive alloys.
What is the finish? Black & gold: a gold-tone coating on the flutes and cutting edges for hardness and heat resistance, plus a black-oxide shank for corrosion protection.
Do the sizes cover my application? The set runs 1/16" to 1/2" in 1/64" increments — 29 diameters covering pilot, clearance and assembly holes.
Can we order our own brand? Yes — laser marking on the shank plus case and label printing. MOQ on request.
Will they fit my drill? Check your chuck capacity against the bit diameter and make sure the shank is fully seated. For larger diameters a drill press gives the best control.
