The left-hand drills open a true pilot hole while turning counterclockwise, so the fastener backs out instead of being driven deeper; the milled extractors then bite and finish the job. Center-punch the broken fastener, drill with the matched left-hand bit in reverse rotation to open a pilot hole, then tap in the extractor and turn counterclockwise to remove the fastener. Keep both tools square and wear eye protection.
