Amsuo Granted Design Patent for Self-Adaptive Hex Shank Tool Accessory

Sep 12, 2026

Amsuo has been granted a design patent by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) for a self-adaptive hex shank — a power-tool accessory shank that seats correctly in both standard three-jaw drill chucks and hex quick-change systems, without an adapter.

What was granted

Certificate No. 10211560 was issued on 8 September 2026 for the design named “Hex shank (self-adaptive)”. The application was filed on 26 March 2026; the design right takes effect from the grant announcement, published as CN 310191393 S.

The patentee recorded on the certificate is Jiangsu Amsuo Industrial Technology Co., Ltd. and co-inventors.

Under Chinese patent law a design patent protects the appearance of a product — its shape, pattern or combination of colour and shape — not its technical function. The grant secures the appearance of the shank as shown in the published drawings.

One shank, two chuck types

Most power-tool accessories are built for one holder type: a plain shank for a three-jaw drill chuck, or a hex shank for a quick-change holder. Users who move between the two keep two sets of accessories, or stop to fit an adapter.

The self-adaptive hex shank removes that step: its geometry is intended to be gripped by the jaws of a standard drill chuck and to seat in the hexagonal socket of a quick-change system, so the same accessory works with either tool.

A design aimed at the work

amsuo’s engineering team set out to reconcile two requirements that normally pull against each other: how quickly an accessory can be loaded, and how firmly it stays loaded under load. Because the shank presents machined flats to both the chuck jaws and the hex socket, the interface is intended to hold its grip torque during the cut rather than relying on an added adapter joint.

Design protection as part of the development cycle

The self-adaptive hex shank is the most recent addition to amsuo’s protected tool-accessory range. The company develops shank geometry and accessory interfaces for the tool holders its buyers actually use — carbide and HSS drill bits, rotary burrs and mounted points, sockets and driver bits — and registers that work where it is worth defending.
